I'm not having a lot of luck reproducing this.

Can you tell me if your kernel is built with CONFIG_MODVERSIONS enabled? 
In my case I have that off, but turning it on may change things related to 
this issue.

Can ANYONE here add any info to this?  I'll follow up with a longer post 
in a little bit..
