Note...

My understanding is that ivtv didn't use hotplug to retrieve the firmware 
files, which is probably why this was working for you for ivtv.  However 
be advised that the ivtv driver is switching over to using hotplug, at 
point you'll need to do the same thing there that you already have to do 
for pvrusb2.
