[pvrusb2] HVR-1950 not loading using pvrusb2 on kernel 2.6.33.2

Using Kernel 2.6.33.2 mainline kernel on AMD 64 dual CPU chip (from
/proc/cpuinfo AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+). It is
tainted with nvidia 195.36.15.

After a long period of time (at least in internet time) I have decided
to resume use of my HVR-1950.

This HVR-1950 is the older one with 8K firmware (which is in /lib/firmware).

-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 8192 Oct 6 2006 /lib/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-24xxx-01.fw
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 8192 Jul 1 2006 /lib/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-29xxx-01.fw
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 8192 Jun 17 2009 /lib/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-73xxx-01.fw

I have the pvrusb2 blacklisted to allow the machine to boot completely
before I load the device.

I do modprobe pvrusb2 with lots of bits of debug: 0xffff.

I don't get the normal first firmware load:

dmesg shows:

pvrusb2: pvr_init
usbcore: registered new interface driver pvrusb2
pvrusb2: V4L in-tree version:Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 MPEG2 Encoder/Tuner
pvrusb2: Debug mask is 65535 (0xffff)
pvrusb2: pvr_init complete
pvrusb2: pvr2_context thread start

that's it....

inside ps aux there is a:

root 2271 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S 12:56 0:00
[pvrusb2-context]

Nothing happens and then I rmmod the pvrusb2 and get:

pvrusb2: pvr_exit
usbcore: deregistering interface driver pvrusb2
pvrusb2: pvr2_context thread cleaned up
pvrusb2: pvr2_context thread end
pvrusb2: pvr_exit complete

I looked back at the normal loads from the mail list and I am not
getting the first firmware load request.

lsusb does not show this device.

Any comments regarding where to look would be appreciated. I have the
kernel compiled and will put the .config out if that is important.
All the video devices (and sub components) are compiled as modules.
Also, I can turn on kernel debugging if you indicate where and how I
do so.

Thanks in advance.
