I'm using Fedore Core 4 and atrpms with the latest updated kernel:
kernel-2.6.12-1.1447_FC4
kernel-devel-2.6.12-1.1447_FC4
lirc-0.7.2-1.1.fc4
lirc-devel-0.7.2-1.1.fc4
lirc-kmdl-2.6.12-1.1447_FC4-0.7.2-48.rhfc4.at

What do your /dev/lirc* files look like?

Does lsmod show lirc_i2c?

Can you try running irw before this next client tries to use it?

Was the client started by root?

When I installed the pvrusb2 drivers, I only used the pvrusb2.ko and
saa7115.ko modules. The other modules were already installed by FC4.
I don't know if that would make a difference.
