The device this person has appears to have the photodiode and the IR 
receiver chip.  There's a voltage change on the photodiode when it sees 
the remote.  Both the lirc driver and the v4l i2c IR driver connect to 
the device successfully but neither can ever see any IR activity.  This 
makes me suspect that - assuming the device isn't defective - that this 
might be an MCE kit version with the internal IR receiver disabled in 
some manner.

Anything you can describe about your PVR USB2 device that might make it 
visibly distinguishable as an MCI kit variant would be helpful.  Thanks.
